2 NEW CONSTRUCTION Guemes Island, WA

The client's daughter, an architect, along with her mother enlisted Dyna to help create a contemporary family retreat on Guemes Island. In addition to building an energy efficient house with minimal environmental impact, Dyna also followed the clients' wishes to preserve existing trees, and use island labor when appropriate. The final product includes three separate suites connected by a great room with 14' ceilings and filled with natural light. Inside, the house uses environmental materials such as bamboo floors and low-emission paints. Outside, a clear, unfinished cedar rain-screen system provides long-term structural protection with minimal maintenance. Solar panels allow the homeowner to sell power back to the local utility. Nearly every room of the finished home affords a view of Mt. Baker and the surrounding islands. Ample decks made of Bankirai wood, with cable and steel railings, take additional advantage of the view.
